Meet Bella: The Great Pyrenees Behind JOI Pet Treats

When our Great Pyrenees, Bella, joined our family to guard our backyard chickens, we made a commitment to give her the longest, healthiest life possible. After learning that the average life expectancy for a Great Pyrenees is around 12 years, we started searching for ways to support her overall health and longevity through nutrition.

The answer was clear: raw, high-protein, nutrient-dense meats.

There was just one problem. Bella is a free feeder who takes her time eating. Leaving raw food sitting out introduced a real risk of food-borne illness—and as a loving pet owner, that wasn't a compromise we were willing to make.

We turned to dehydrated treats as a safer alternative, only to run into another roadblock: store-bought "healthy" treats were constantly packed with hidden salts, artificial preservatives, and low-quality fillers.

So, we decided to make them ourselves.

Why JOI Means Total Transparency

The name JOI stands for Just One Ingredient—because rewarding your dog or cat shouldn't require reading a paragraph of chemicals and vague meat sources.

We wanted to build a brand anchored in total transparency. When you open a bag of JOI Pet Treats, you see exactly what’s inside: 100% pure, single-ingredient protein. Over time, pet parents experience the real JOI difference: higher energy levels, better digestion, and noticeably shinier coats.

Our Pledge:
"If we wouldn’t feed it to our own pets, it will never go into a bag for yours. No added salts, no preservatives, no hidden fillers, and no compromises. Ever."

Safety First: Science-Backed Preparation & Sourcing

Pet safety is our top priority. Handling raw meats requires rigorous standards, which is why every JOI treat is prepared under strict human-grade safety protocols:

Sourced Fresh & Local: We source fresh, human-grade meats directly from local farmers' markets and sustainable partners, including Carrell Farms in Monroe, GA, known for their holistic, regenerative farming practices.

Wild-Caught & Flash-Frozen Fish: Our fish products are wild-caught and immediately flash-frozen to preserve nutrients while completely eliminating natural parasites.

Pathogen-Free Sterilization: Unlike freeze-drying—which leaves meat raw and vulnerable to harmful bacteria like Salmonella, E. coli, and Listeria—our custom dehydration process utilizes a sterilization method that achieves a 99.999% reduction in bacteria, giving you all the benefits of pure, nutrient-dense meat with zero safety worries.

Strict Sanitation: Our preparation areas and dehydrators are thoroughly sanitized continuously before, during, and immediately after handling every batch.

The Misconception About Store-Bought Pet Biscuits

Many pet parents assume a standard store-bought dog biscuit is a healthy daily reward. In reality, traditional pet biscuits are often packed with heavy carbohydrates, sugars, and unnecessary fats that contribute to pet obesity, pancreatitis, and diabetes.

By replacing processed starch biscuits with single-ingredient meat treats, you supply your pets with high-quality protein that supports muscle maintenance, sustained energy, and long-term health.
